Joyful Studio showcases diverse and inclusive books for young readers from traditional, new and emerging authors, particularly indie authors in Maryland, Virginia and D.C. Stop by to purchase books or register in advance for a Storytime & Art event, which pairs engaging children’s books with fun art workshops.

Story-time & Art events are held for a fee. Registration is available via Eventbrite.

Story-time hours are based on availability and may vary. However, the reading room is generally open during paint parties and other events.

Kids Book Swap

Kids Book Swap is a free outdoor event that celebrates reading and kids in the local community. Kids are encouraged to exchange books with one another, and discover new books. Kids Book Swap takes place during the Young Artist Market (YAM) on 3rd Saturdays in June, July and August in La Plata, MD.

Children’s book authors interested in contributing their books; participating in the Kids Book Swap; scheduling a story-time session; and/or connecting in general, are encouraged to reach out via email.
